A Guide to Buying: A genuine petosa accordion

A Guide to buying a pre-owned petosa accordion is designed to assist you in the journey of selecting a genuine pre-owned petosa—from learning about how a petosa is built and its recorded history, to what makes a genuine petosa and the various aspects to consider when shopping for a petosa in the pre-owned market.

How to determine the age of any petosa

When shopping for a pre-owned petosa accordion, you will want to take into consideration its age.  By determining the age, you will have a better understanding of its history.  At petosa accordions, there are thousands of file cards that hold the records of every accordion built by petosa since 1949.  As accordions are finished, they are serial-numbered and entered into the petosa archives, which list the details of each accordion built since record keeping began. The first two digits of the serial number identify the year of manufacture.  Anyone with a serial number from any petosa accordion can contact us for the information on a specific instrument, including the model, reed configuration, original finish, sale date, and to whom and where it was originally sold.  The historical records of each accordion is another proprietary aspect that makes a petosa unique.  All original petosa accordions are produced from the finest quality materials and workmanship by artisan craftsman. We are proud of the fact that every petosa, although individually different, shares the same unique quality and features that make each and every one of our instruments deserving of the name.

Here are a few unique features that are unique in identifying a Petosa accordion:

  • The accordion cabinet is made from select aged mahogany, mahogany reed blocks with a spruce wood center and walnut base (some exceptions apply).
  • Keys made of aged walnut and hand-cut lucite key tops.
  • Reed quality consist of either the finest hand-finished (tipo a mano) or finest handmade (a mano), fine genuine leather reed valves.
  • AM and SM models with Petosa's unique precision-chromed bass mechanics and exclusive porto basso
  • Exclusive grille designs and the name p e t o s a in individual chrome letters attached to the front of each accordion.
  • A stamped serial number located on the back bottom corner.
